Blind embossing
Blind embossing means embossing a sign or picture onto paper. It can be carried
out from either side – as a positive or negative.
Stamping
A sign or picture is stamped onto paper through
a thin foil from which paint (e.g. gold)
is transferred onto the envelope.
Lamination
The paper surface (of envelopes or book covers in particular)
is coated with a thin foil - glossy, matt or textured.
Varnishing
It is almost impossible for a layman to tell the difference between lamination and varnishing.
To improve the effect, it is possible to apply varnish on a part of the area only; this method
is called pattern coating.
